When becoming a manager for the first time, there can be a lot to take onboard. Setting objectives, developing staff, giving feedback; all these activities, and more, can feature in a typical list of new managerial responsibilities.

To accelerate the rate at which new managers become comfortable with these responsibilities, a comprehensive learning programme has been created to cover the fundamentals of management.

This programme is intended to help new managers get the basics right, develop their personal management style and build confidence as a leader. 

The programme combines 7 topics, grouped into 2 modules. The first module covers objective setting, giving feedback and managing performance while the second looks at delegation, developing people, attendance management and conducting high-quality conversations. 

The face to face workshops are scheduled for the 25th October and 13th January. You must be able to attend both sessions to be able to register for this course.

The topics covered during the lessons are:

Module 1: Objective setting and giving feedback

Module 2: Conducting high quality conversations and achieving results through others

 

Learning activities

The learning activities within the programme are spread out over a period of up to 3 months and include online tutorials, tasks, self-assessments and workshops.

After each of the 2 modules, there may be the opportunity to join a peer learning group, which is a small, informal group designed to discuss and help new managers apply their learning.

The estimated learning time is approximately 30 hours, plus optional peer learning group sessions.

 

Learning outcomes

After completing this programme, you will be able to:


demonstrate the fundamental requirements of strong performance management

take the appropriate actions to ensure that staff are motivated and empowered to perform their duties

deliver greater teamwork and productivity as well as overseeing staff being developed and utilised to their full potential.

Places on the workshop are limited, therefore if you book a place please make every effort to attend. If you need to cancel your place, you should notify us as soon as possible, copying in your manager, so that your place can be offered to someone else who will benefit from the learning.

Please note: If you cancel 5 working days before the commencement of the workshop or do not attend on the day irrespective of reason, your business area will have to pay a cancellation charge.
