Course Overview

You will be introduced to theoretical knowledge and essential practical skills needed for a career as a theatre director.

Through practical workshops, working with other short course students and group analysis you will explore:


how the actor’s process works

ways to realise text in performance

critical analysis of the work of other directors

developing, planning and delivering your own directing exercise

working with actors from other short courses on an extended project based on a play (recent plays include Pinter's Betrayal, Rachel Cusk's Medea).


The course is for.....


everyone regardless of prior experience or training

people who are new to directing

actors who are interested in moving into directing

other theatre practitioners who are interested in learning more about the role of the director



Course Detail

Times: Mondays & Wednesdays, 7.00pm - 9.30pm for 8 weeks. The course consists of 16 sessions in total. 

Age: Minimum age is 18 on the first day of the course. No upper age limit. 

Language requirements: Applicants must be confident speaking and reading English to a conversational level (IELTS score of 7.0 or equivalent). Please note, you will be expected to read texts/scripts that may have advanced vocabulary in them on this course. 

Maximum class size: 16 

Attendance: Due to the structure of the courses, and the colloborative nature of acting, full attendance is required.
