This talk is part of the Great Exhibition Road Festival's talks programme. The full line up of talks can be found here and find the full programme of activities on the Festival website.

Registering for a ticket guarantees you a place at this talk if you arrive ten minutes before the start. After that time we may give your seat away.

Selected from 13,000 applicants, Helen Sharman, CMG, OBE, became the first British Astronaut when, in May 1991, she launched on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft and spent eight days orbiting the Earth, living and working on the MIR Space Station. Helen’s talk will take you on a journey into space, describing her training and preparation, the realities of launch day, how weightlessness feels and just what it is like living and working in space.

Teamwork is vital 100 miles up and Helen will give a personal perspective on this, as well as some thoughts on the future of space exploration. With plenty of photographs taken from her pioneering trip, join her and enjoy the ride!
