A 6-week course, 6:30-8:30pm every Thursday 25 April - 30 May

As part of the HLF-funded Victorian Blogging project, Conway Hall will be running an interactive 6-part evening course focusing on London’s radical and rebellious writers, pamphleteers, journalists and activists whose words challenged the status quo in several arenas between 1840-1890 – whether on women’s rights, housing, workplace conditions, religious authority, militarism or other issues. And we will simultaneously examine the work and campaigning of their counterparts 100 years later between 1940-1990.

During the course we will use archive material from the Humanist Library & Archives and also make a visit to May Day Rooms, an evolving active archive of post-war radicalism in Britain.

The course will be taught by David Rosenberg whose new edition of Rebel Footprints; a guide to uncovering London’s Radical History is being published by Pluto Press in April 2019.

We are committed to promoting inclusive practice at Conway Hall. Due to the constraints of our building, the Library is not currently accessible to wheelchair users or those with limited mobility but we are happy to discuss with you how we can make the contents and materials accessible to you. We carefully monitor which events are held in the Library, and will use your comments to enable us to develop ways to ensure that everyone should be able to attend events in the future.
