The second of this season’s recitals in Mitsuko Uchida’s Schubert Sonata survey.

The D.537 and D.568 Sonatas are amongst the first that Schubert wrote. Already displaying the composer’s trademark elegance and gift for melody, both Sonatas were written in 1817 – the same year that Beethoven composed his revelatory Hammerklavier.

Uchida completes her journey through Schubert’s Sonatas with his final composition in the genre – the great B flat major Sonata D.960 – his greatest composition for the piano and a masterpiece in its own right.

Repertoire:
Schubert: Sonata in A minor, D.537; Sonata in E flat, D.568
Interval
Schubert: Sonata in B flat, D.960
