About the course
This course focusses on the process of differential diagnosis in the paediatric population from the neonate to teenagers in relation to the musculoskeletal system. The course will cover case history taking, potential red flags and examination of the paediatric patient presenting with a potential musculoskeletal complaint.

Communcation and Consent
This course includes 30 minutes covering the specific requirements regarding gaining consent when treating children of different age groups.




Learning outcomes
• Extend your knowledge of musculoskeletal (MSK) development throughout childhood and adolescence

• Understand gait development

• Revise common MSK pathologies and injuries specific to the paediatric population differential diagnosis and management

• Learn paediatric red flags

• Discuss the active/inactive teenager

• Learn how to perform a MSK assessment in children-Introduction of pGALS

• Broaden your knowledge base regarding rehabilitation and management of paediatric patients/consider hands off treatment approaches

• Improve your paediatric case history taking and examination techniques

• Gain an understanding of evidence-based approaches to diagnosis and management of the paediatric patient

• Learn from the discussion of case-based examples of paediatric MSK presentations





Course Suitability
This course is suitable for GOsC registered osteopaths who are interested in learning or consolidating their knowledge of the paediatric musculo-skeletal system.



Biography of the Course Leader


Arabella Gaunt qualified as an Osteopath from the BSO with distinction in 2011 and completed her Paediatric diploma at the Osteopathic Centre for Children in 2013. Following this she gained an MSc in Sports Medicine from QMUL.

She currently teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students at the UCO where she is a Clinical Teaching Fellow. Arabella runs a list in the UCO Children’s clinic as a tutor and also leads the UCO Sports Clinic. She also works in private practice where she treats a mixture of adults and children.
