Maths in the Early Years: Making Maths Count

Led by mathematics consultant Elaine Bennett (co-author of the popular Storybook Maths Series, Everyday Maths Through Everyday Provision and The Building Blocks Of Maths, Founder of Keeping Early Years Unique) FREE*

This 4 day work group will lead participants through the progression of mathematical concepts in the   Early Years.Participants will develop approaches to planning and provision for EYFS mathematics across their environment, using the pedagogies of EYFS best practice, to ensure that all children are   provided with access to deep mathematical learning across the environment.

Day 1 will focus on observation, assessment and provision for “Exceeding Mathematicians”

Days 2 and 3 will focus on Subject Knowledge:


 Progression in mathematical thinking throughout EYFS and KS1

 Addressing common misconceptions and barriers to maths

 Role of adult and environment in enabling children to build mathematical foundations

 Activities to support all children to progress mathematically

 How ‘low cost’/’no cost’ everyday activities can inspire mathematical thinking


Day 4 will focus on: Leading Maths in EYFS


 Maths coordinators from each school are expected to join their school’s participant

 EYFS specialist and maths leaders will develop a shared vision for maths in EYFS
