Wade into climate science on the Oregon Coast with South Slough! The Reserve provides hands-on, interactive trainings for classroom teachers, pre-service teachers and non-formal educators who work closely with schools.

This is a 3-day summer workshop that will meet 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM June 19 & 20th, and 9 AM - 3:00 PM on June 21st, 2019. (Overnight housing is available upon request.)

South Slough educators will use the phenomenon of sea level rise to explore causes and effects of changing atmosphere on our estuaries and oceans.

Participating educators will receive:

$150 stipend
NGSS structured activities that demonstrate how scientists study climate change
strategies for teaching about climate change
lunch & snacks each day
field trip and classroom support
20 hours of professional development

South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve educators, scientists and partners will use field sites and research in the South Slough and Coos Bay estuaries to provide content for essential science practices and make cross-curricular connections. This workshop will use research from the Reserve to investigate aspects of climate science, as well as collect and analyze data with Reserve scientists.
